Some Mornings
04:14
|
|||
Some mornings round her shape at the window
I was stirred with the dust in the light
And the outlines of dove dreams in the morning
Would bear out their boundless flight
But now, oh
I move with the breeze in the evening
And the lead that it takes from her street
I reach for things beyond my grasping
And roam beyond the good sense I would keep
A wander's heart cannot be burdened
Blinded by silver and gold
He's senseless of all but a hunger
And hunger won’t let his feet hold
We met on an ageless shoreline
She sailed her ship with steady hand
The seabirds knew her kind gestures
I received them with one foot in the sand
But now, oh
We've drifted with an ocean far between us
Forgotten by our words unsaid
Covered by the skies of autumn
And sunk down to the deep sea's bed
A wander's heart cannot be burdened
Blinded by silver and gold
He's senseless of all but a hunger
And hunger won’t let his feet hold

Monkey's Tail
02:28
|
|||
I’m hanging down by a monkeys’ tail
Cutting out a cardboard self
As you kid-napped the conversation
Revealing the crack in our shell
Open the window
Drag the sky and ocean back to blue
Your story is as long as a 10-car train
Mine’s like a kid on a bike
I can’t wait to let it pass me by
& fade into the dead of night
Over the rainbow
My mind has gone with the cuckoo bird that’s flown
Open the window
& I’ll ask the wind directions of its’ own
I could swear you shrunk to small size dog
As you’ve really got something to bark
Justifying your place in it all
To hide your fear of the dark
It maybe a passing thing I know
But when ears are dead there’s nothing none can do
I'm gonna climb out this window
And skip this night and so tomorrow start anew

Fall For The Breeze
03:03
|
|||
It’s calling from the hills
It’s calling ‘cross the seas
That beckoning call, it’s calling through these trees
Like the rhythm under the beat
That moves my weary feet
And takes me home
Some say it’s just summer’s rain
Well I turned when I heard it again
And I fell from the crowd when it called to me aloud, I became at ease
Yes I fall for the breeze
It's the lark’s song in the day
The steeple’s chime at night
Although I look up, they don’t think I can climb it…but I might
(Chorus)
Oh friend will you still play
In the last light of this day
Since what remains for you remains for me
When the morning bell has tolled,
The evening drums rolled
But the pipes still play?
(Chorus)

Tears
02:37
|
|||
I call you up, you pour your tears down the line
I’m so surprised coz your last message said you were fine
But now the black shroud is down
You say you don’t know how or why
Flowing tears from a solid frown
Darling, please eat something don’t just cry
Your things are gone but you don’t miss your silver cup
But little things trigger floods & mess you up
Like your absent cat or the broken screen
Paying your rent on a bad day’s work, or is it
The passing years or a fading dream
Darling we’ll find help if you’re hurt
With a little help you’ll pull through you’re strong enough
There’s a lot o’ good things around you and you can change your luck
They say one day at a time to lean towards the light
And keep that lovin’ light shining on through the night
Your things are gone but you don’t miss your silver cup
Better things will come to you when you look up

The Ox
03:07
|
|||
I envy the ox that is stronger than me
Whose skin is thick enough to shield
A fierce keen will and a stubborn intent
From the mists in which direction gets concealed
Stood in summer heat and the cold winter snow
His hooves in soil take their bite
He couldn’t blow away if he wanted at all
Just moves steady till the morning light
Coz I’m steady as a rock with a whirlpool mind
The world turns all too fast
And slower than a sundial to keep time
To overcome though, we were built to last
I welcome the Ox that is older than me
As youth deludes myself but not he
For the years strip the zeal and pipe-dream fancies
Of what it is we think we ought to be
Bound by the yoke, the harness and the plough
Acceptance is the work that doesn’t cease
So close to the earth and far beneath the stars
O perseverance bring us some kind of peace
Coz I’m steady as a rock with a whirlpool mind
The world turns all too fast
And slower than a sundial to keep time
To overcome though, we were built to last

Dream On Dreamer
05:08
|
|||
Caravan perched on the side of the hill
Up above town all around is quiet and still, so still, so still
He was shaping clay dragons in the candlelight
Rain on the windowpane, well it’s alright
When summertime comes he’ll soak in sunlight
And run around the fire outside all night
Coz nobody hears, nobody cares
He’s free as the birds with whom his bread he shares
Dream on, dreamer, you’ve found a place to dream
Dream away the clocks and tel’phone ring
Dream on, dreamer, money won’t buy your things
This world is yours, and here you are as king
Lying in the bath on the heathery green
The view from here's the best you’ve ever seen
Tiny little voices on the radio
Come from a world so far and long ago
For this common land’s just a place to be
It’s a home for him, a sanctuary for me
Dream on, dreamer, you’ve found a place to dream
Dream away the clocks and tel’phone ring
Dream on, dreamer, money won’t buy your things
This world is yours, and here you are as king
Caravan perched on the side of the hill
Up above town all around is quiet and still, so still, so still
Coz nobody hears, nobody cares
He’s as free as the birds with whom his bread he shares

Thorns Not The Rose
03:40
|
|||
The poor boy lost himself
In a beautiful rose, in a briar of thorns
He just keeps on falling through
Though he's cut himself till his blood runs dry
He cries "bathe my wounds in the sea?
And quench the fire that burns in me?"
But the wind just laughs when it blows
"He loves the thorns not the rose!"
He's a-reaching for his cure
But a troubled cure for a troubled mind
She'd kill him if she could I'm sure
Jes', a love like this how the hell did he find?
Well, since the bottle and pills ran dry
He can't really choose when to laugh, when to cry
And the will don't break, it just grows
He loves the thorns not the rose
If the mirror she holds shows lies
And your ingratiation is all in vain
And shows the parts of you you despise
'Could take a whole lot of medicine to kill that pain
Well you know the truth ain't white
But she colours it black like the cold dark of night
Well maybe she even knows
You love the thorns not the rose

Harvest
03:39
|
|||
Comes and goes without trace
A wild flower's embrace - it's ever fleeting
But the evocative breeze of memory's a tease never gone
But summertime’s din brings a dizzying spin that looses my mind
But a year has gone by since we left each others side
Is it time?
Time for the harvest?
Wind whispers and moans
In the heavy branch groans in the fruit trees
It gets warmer each day
And the sparrow finds his way
Back home
But the glare from the sun can daze anyone to a world of whim
Could confuse and misshape any quiet mindful state
We were in. Bring it on home for the harvest.
It's time for the harvest...
Though the wilting of flowers dragged on the hours through gloom
In December’s dark night my lengthening sight looked for June
And I welcomed the ghost, could feel her coming close
Knew her name
But when I reached out to hold only smoke did unfold
What a shame
Well, I’m here for the harvest

Swallow Song
02:35
|
|||
You don’t know what it is you’ve got ‘till it’s gone
As beauty only trembles in the hand
You never know what shines, will it shine for how long?
And forgotten lies the love that’s all around
Carry these words and tell my love
I’ve trusted her all along
Blessed and free sings the swallows’ song
But it leaves in the autumn for the sun
If I could leave now and follow her at all
I’d catch the very first wind and be gone
Carry these words and tell my love
I’ve trusted her all along
Carry these words and tell my love
If the heart never lies it ain’t wrong
Too many miles and too many days
Absence grows affection or forgets
Love shows its colours in too many ways
And hindsight bares a wisdom from regrets
Carry these words and tell my love
I’ve trusted her love all along
Carry these words and tell my love
If the heart never lies it ain’t wrong

Welcombe Back
03:25
|
|||
Bring your good fortune & come in out of the race
Pleased to see you say all
You’ve been gone so long this town lost its taste
And time reduced to the crawl
You left not knowing if you would return
Your heart packed tightly in your case
And now so surprised at all that has changed
Your friends remain the beauty in this place
Chorus:
Put your flag on the fly, ‘cause we’re back on a high
Now we now know nobody left on their own
‘Cause we were watchin’ the tide, trying to close the divide
& then our good good friend returned home
Reborn on the breeze, aboard ships with square sails
Heard wisdoms and the joker’s cheer
It’s a starry long night for a traveller’s tale
Fill your glass, for our good friend is here
Now it’s been raining since the day you left us alone
Just your congregation asking, “why the hell you come back home?”
Bring in your good fortune and busted bootlace
Pleased to see you say all
Those days you were gone felt like years put to waste
We didn’t forget you at all
Chorus

There's A Rhythm
03:56
|
|||
There’s a rhythm under the song
And it beats for the old and the young
And it pounds in the back of the sun
It’s the sound of one drummer, one drum
There’s a rhythm, it’s subtle yet strong
And it moves all the wallflowers on
To the dance floor that holds everyone
To the sound of one drummer, one drum
Dance for the time marches on
Off to a war that can never be won
To the heartbeat of drums
There’s a rhythm not cruel nor kind
Though you feel that it’s left you behind
Is it justice or you that is blind?
When you don’t see it coming, how come?
Chorus x2
There’s a rhythm under the song
And it beats for the old and the young
And it pounds in the back of the sun
It’s the sound of one drummer, one drum
